Event Information

The Schools Alpine Competition 25 is a three-day Ski & Snowboard competition at Cardrona Alpine Resort.

Registration and bib collection will be on Monday 22nd (3 – 6pm) at the Cardrona Hotel.

The competition is for North & South Island schools, and invited Australian schools at Cardrona Alpine Resort, Wanaka.

Every child must travel with their own parent(s) or guardian. Flights and accomodation to be sorted by the competitors and their families or team managers.

All athletes must be made aware of the Athlete Code of Conduct, which can be found here.

Disciplines, Divisions & Teams

Disciplines include Ski & Snowboard Giant Slalom, Gravity X (Ski & Snowboard-cross) and Dual Slalom.

Age Divisions include Junior (Years 3-6), Intermediate: (Years 7-8)  and Senior: (Years 9-10).
Please Note: Year 2 may enter however they will compete as year 3 (Juniors).

School Team entries can include Boys, Girls or Mixed (Gender) teams. Teams can have a maximum of 5, and a minimum of 3 competitors. Mixed Teams must include a minimum of 2 girls.

AGE CATERGORIES – (GS AND SKI / BOARDER X)

As this event is Trans-Tasman Competition and the school year groups vary from NZ to Australia, the competitors will race against others who are born in the same year. For example, those born in 2014 (JAN 1 – Dec31) will race in the 11 year old Category. This will make this event fair for all Student competitors.

6:00am:Snow reports updated on cardrona.com
7.30 – 9.00am:Registration, ticketing and Late bib allocation (Slope Side Guest Services)
9:15am:Competitor briefing top of GS Course (Access from White-star Chairlift). All Girls and Snowboarders remain at the GS for inspection, Male Skiers go to Gravity-cross course for inspection.
9:30am:Course inspections. Please stay within the course and together as teams.
10.00am:Girls and Snowboarders Giant Slalom run 1 followed by run 2.
Male Skiers Gravity-cross slip inspection, speed inspection then time trial
11.30amGirls & Snowboarders GSX slip inspection, speed inspection then time trial
Male Skiers, Giant Slalom run 1 followed by run 2
1.30pm:All competitors GSX elimination rounds (1/4 finals, Semi Finals, Small Finals, Finals)
5.00pm:Results & awards presentation held at the Cardrona Hotel Garden area 5pm
Same morning schedule as above with all competitors meeting at the top of the course. Postponement for Ski/Snowboard-cross if required.

Individual & Team Results and Awards

Team and individual results are presented each day at the Cardrona Hotel Garden area (Time 5pm). Podium places include 1st – 3rd for each discipline and for teams results.

Schools Alpine Competition 25 Event Costs

The total price of the event has been reduced by 15% per event from last year, providing entrants register and pay by Friday 8th August.

Entry Fee (per event): $125 NZD INC GST. If registered and paid prior to August 8th.

Late entries will be taken until August 29th, but these will be at $150 NZD INC GST per athlete, per event. 

School Team Details

  • Junior Teams (Years 2-6) *
    * Year 2 may enter however they will compete as year 3 (Juniors).
  • Intermediate Teams (Years 7-8)
  • Senior Teams (Years 9-10)
  • All competitors must compete in Day 1 of the Giant Slalom for seeding purposes.
  • Max 5 / Min 3 Per Team – 3 fastest times combined for school team trophies.
  • Team categories include:

    Mixed (minimum 2 girls per team)

Registration Info

Registrations are welcome for both boys and girls from years 2 through to 10. Individual competitors and schools teams can both enter.

Helmets are compulsory. Race suits are welcome. 

All entries and payment due 8th August 2025 to take advantage of early bird fees ($125.00 NZD Inc GST per athlete, per event). Entrants after the 8th will incur late charges. 

Late entries will be accepted until August 29th, however the price will be $150.00 per athlete, per event if paid after 8th August.

Gate Volunteers

We are on the lookout for Gate Volunteers / Timers, ideally parents for the four days of racing at the event. Volunteers will be led by the NZSKI and Cardrona Race Officials and receive a free day pass, lunch and coffee / tea during the day.

Volunteers cannot be team managers.
